A specialist in the psychology of cosmetic surgery
The service was founded by a Consultant Psychiatrist with higher training in general adult and liaison psychiatry, and a subspecialty interest in body dysmorphic disorder and the psychology of cosmetic surgery, backed by research and extensive clinical experience.
“Surgery can change how someone looks. It cannot always change how they see.”
Three principles shape every assessment we carry out.
Consultant-led
Seen by a specialist
Every assessment is carried out by a GMC-registered consultant psychiatrist with a subspecialty interest in body dysmorphic disorder.
Evidence-based
Validated, recognised tools
We use DSM-5 criteria and validated instruments such as the BDDQ, Y-BOCS-BDD, PHQ-9 and GAD-7, informed by NICE guidance (CG31).
Collaborative
Working with your team
Reports are written for the referring clinician, with a clear recommendation and practical next steps.
